Tieguanyin (Iron Goddess of Mercy)Regular price £9.00
Tieguanyin, also known as the Iron Goddess of Mercy, is a renowned Chinese oolong tea that embodies elegance, complexity, and a rich cultural heritage. With its distinctive flavour profile and captivating aroma, Tieguanyin has captivated tea enthusiasts around the world.
Legend has it that Tieguanyin tea was discovered by a poor farmer who found an abandoned temple with an iron statue of the goddess of mercy, Guanyin. As a gesture of gratitude, the farmer took care of the temple and cultivated the tea bushes surrounding it. The tea produced from these bushes was exceptionally fragrant and flavourful, eventually becoming known as Tieguanyin, or the Iron Goddess of Mercy.
Tieguanyin is renowned for its unique combination of floral, fruity, and toasty notes. The tightly rolled, dark green leaves unfurl during brewing, releasing a mesmerizing aroma that fills the air. With each sip, you'll experience a smooth and velvety texture accompanied by a delicate balance of orchid-like floral tones, fruity undertones, and a subtle hint of roasted notes.
The production of Tieguanyin involves meticulous handcrafting techniques, including plucking the tea leaves at just the right stage of maturity and skilful oxidation and roasting processes. These steps contribute to the tea's complex flavour profile and its ability to be infused multiple times, allowing you to savour its evolving taste with each infusion.
